"Unusual, in that not many houses declared 1981 a vintage year. This is a supple, beautiful wine, virtually orange in color, a fact that hints at its earthy, autumnal palate impression. Shows hints of mushroom, clarified butter and demi-glace notes on the nose, with baked apple and earth flavors in the mouth. Mature and sexy; drink now."

2006 Chateau Maris Old Vine Syrah

2006 Chateau Maris Old Vine Syrah

Region: Languedoc-Roussillon, France
Grape: Syrah

"The Maris 2006 Syrah Old Vines offers an effusive nose of black cherry and buddleia, a silky, rich palate, and distinct undertones of roasted meat, iodine, and wet stone, leading into an impressively long finish. While this is even riper than the corresponding La Togue, it displays some of the same sense of invigoration and sheer juicy drink-ability, unhindered by its alcohol. I suspect this will be worth following for at least another 3-4 years. "

2007 Pahlmeyer Merlot

2007
Pahlmeyer Merlot
Region: Napa Valley, Ca
Grape: Merlot

"One of the finest Merlots being made in Napa is the 2007 Merlot (87% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Sauvignon). It has evolved gorgeously since tasted from barrel last year. This sumptuous wine offers beautiful melted chocolate, cocoa, and espresso notes intermixed with black cherry, plum, fig, and blackberry fruit. This opulent, full-bodied, sexy, prodigious California Merlot should give Kapcsandy’s Roberta’s Reserve a run for its money over the next 15-20 years"

"The estate’s 2004 Carmione is a blend of 60% Cabernet (Sauvignon and Franc) and 40% Merlot. This rich, sumptuous red is packed with sweet dark fruit supported by plenty of structure. It shut down quickly in the glass and will require some patience, but offers outstanding potential. It is a terrific effort from Pratesi. Anticipated maturity. 2009-2019."

"Bright red. Seductive aromas of black raspberry, cherry compote, smoky herbs and Asian spices. Fleshy red and dark berry flavors are given spine by dusty minerals and complicated by candied rose and cola notes. Suavely blends richness and energy, finishing with echoes of cherry and succulent herbs. 2003 Vergelegen Cabernet Sauvignon

"Deep ruby-red. Blackcurrant and tobacco on the nose, along with a wilder game and animal fur character. Fatter, sweeter and lusher on entry than the 2004, then intense but by no means overripe in the mouth, with notes of chocolate, smoke, meat, cedar and minerals. Not green but there's a cooler-vintage character here. Van Rensburg says this will need a good decade of patience-longer than the 2004. Very suave wine, finishing with big, broad tannins."

Foxglove Cabernet Sauvignon 2007

Foxglove Cabernet Sauvignon 2007

"Foxglove also scores highly with their 10,800-case cuvee of 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon. A blend of all-Paso Robles fruit and composed of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Petiti Verdot and Cabernet Franc, the wine has a dense ruby/purple color and plenty of black fruit intermixed with loamy soil undertones, licorice, and spice. The wine is luscious and. medium to full-bodied , with silky tannins and a heady, opulent finish. Drink it over the next 2-4 years, although it could last a lot longer. 2006 Saintsbury Stanly Ranch Carneros Pinot Noir

"Here the nose is every bit as complex as the Brown Ranch with really lovely and attractively subtle spicy red and blue fruit aromas that display a touch of cranberry before merging seamlessly into detailed, pure and delicious medium bodied flavors that possess a dusty and ever so slightly edgy finish that is presently on the youthfully austere side that comes up just a bit short relative to the Cerise."--89 Points--Burghound.com
Sale Price: $22.99 Retail: $45.00 Save $22.01 (49%)

Winemaker's Notes:The modern viticultural history of carneros begins on Stanly Ranch in the 1950s when Louis Martini who then owned part of the historic property began a clonal trial of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with UC Davis and another historic California wine family, the Wentes. The well-known Martini and Wente clones of Pinot noir and Chardonnay emerged from these trials and were propagated and sold by the Wente grapevine nursery.
The historic ranch of Judge Stanly greets visitors to the Napa Valley as they drive up Highway 29 towards the city of Napa and anchors the southeastern corner of the Carneros. The fourth incarnation of grape vines on this property began in 2001 with the development of 350 acres of vines using modern clones, spacing and vertical trellising on the property's clay-loam soils and gently rolling hills. Saintsbury has purchased Stanly Ranch fruit since the 1984 vintage and during the last 20 years it has been a significant source for the Carneros Pinot Noir and Reserve bottlings. We have now come full circle with the Vineyard Series Stanley Ranch one of the successors of the Reserve Pinot Noir in our Pinot Noir lineup.
